```` UNSOLVED HOMICIDE````
Estevan M. Montano was born on August 3, 1960 in Tucson, AZ.  He was raised in Tucson by his parents Maria and Jesus Montano.  He has two sisters (Lupita) Maria Soto and Laura Montano and a brother Jesus "Chuy" Montano. He attended Pueblo High School for 3 years.  He was married on May 23, 1983 to Darlene, his wife for 21 years. He has a total of six
kids; Felicia (24), Stevie (23), Jennifer & Jessica (20), Javier (16), and a daughter named Patricia Montano who passed away in 1987. He also has five grandson Mark "screwy louie" (7), Anthony (5), Nickolas (3), Sal Jr. (3) and Gabriel (1). Steve worked as a foreman for Asplundh tree service which is contracted through TEP. He will always be known for his love of hunting, usually in the Santa Rita Mountains in Sahurarita, AZ. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, tata and friend. He enjoyed spending time with all his grandsons. While supporting and caring for his wife and children Steve enjoyed the outdoors and would take his family with him on these joyous ventures for many years. He was planning on taking his oldest grandson Mark to hunting classes in March of 2005. His dream was to hunt with Mark, and plant the seed that would make a generation of hunters with Steves skill, ability and enthusiasum. He is survived by many family members and friends. Thank you for taking the time to read about this wonderful man who touch so many peoples hearts.
Steve was murdered in August 2004. The persons responsible are still free. No suspects yet. Here is how this tragedy unfolded. Steve went bow hunting on August 26th like he had planned for all year. The morning of August 26th we woke up early he was already at the mountain in his mind, he was so excited that he was finally getting to go. I began getting ready  for work while he finished loading his scout. Steve came back into our room to tell me he was ready to go. He kissed me and while hugging me said Please dont let my trees die. I kinda pushed him on his chest and said What Steve you think you're the only one who can water trees, he kind of smirked and said its getting late I gotta go  I told him to have a good time and that I loved him . He said I'll see you Sunday. . He left me forever .That was the last time I ever saw  Steve alive. Thursday came and went. Friday night the kids (Jess, Felicia her boys, Javier) came over we watched a video of Steve and us. Saturday Felicia came back over so did Jess.  We called Jennifer and invited her to come to dinner and watch the video. We made some good chimis and guacamole. We set some aside for Steve (we were so proud everything tasted so good) We could'nt wait for him to try them.We put a plate in the refridgerator for him. The kids left.  Marc our grandson stayed with me. Sunday I woke up feeling like something was wrong. I began to watch for Steve. Time kept passing he still didnt come home.Where is he. he's never this late.I called my kids they said dont worry he'll be home .He still isnt home. I called his mom I told her I was going to look for Estevan .She sounded worried.I called Jessica I told her I was going to go look for Steve she said wait she was coming to. Felicia called and said George is on his way too. The kids got to my house at 3ish .We got the ropes, cables water, tools (thinking his OLD scout broke down) and headed for the mountain.We got to Steves campsite George and I in front Jesse and Sal in back. Steves camp was still set up. I turned to George and said Oh no George what if I got the wrong day Steve will freak out. Then the worst words I ever heard was George say oh my god. I turned my head toward the camp I started screaming is that my husband, I couldn't get the door opened.  George already jumped out and was running to Steve I next heard Jessica scream Daddy.I finally got the door opened Jessica grabbed me Sal went on to Steve . I tried to go closer Jess kept me at the truck. We have to get help. The cell phone won't work . Jessica said mom let someone else drive I could'nt. Steve was very protective of his truck. I had to drive Steve would be mad as hell if I let someone else drive his truck. We finally got a hold of the sherriff . They took Steve off his mountain one last time at 5:30 pm Sunday August 29th 2004. We thought it was a heart attack, or animal attack.  We found out on August 31st that Steve was murdered they said he was shot to death. I would like the visitors to this sight to know that I appreciated everything everyone did for me and my kids. One of the most beautifull things anyone did for me was when his co-workers came to Felicias house and set up his work truck with cones and all . Then they did a single file circle. They will never know how much that meant to me. Their gesture of respect to Steve and his family . Thanks guys.  The Tucson crew at Asplundh Trees.   Steves wife Darlene.
The public can help solve the August 2004 slaying of a Tucson hunter.
The crime scene was a popular hunting spot on the west side of the Santa Rita Mountains, where family members found Steve Montaño, 44, shot to death at his wilderness campsite. They had gone looking for Montaño when he didn't return home on schedule.
"At this point, the case has pretty much gone cold," said Sgt. Brad Foust, who supervises the Pima County Sheriff's Department homicide unit.
Detectives do have ballistic evidence, some DNA samples and other evidence, but they have no suspects to which to tie them, he said. There is also no known motive.
Montaño's killer or killers probably drove to the campsite and drove off at high speed. Montaño was able to defend himself for some time and injured someone in the struggle, Foust said.
An abandoned campsite found a tenth of a mile from the crime scene in October likely is linked to the slaying, he said. The second site included a new tent, a broken lawn chair, rifle ammunition, food, coolers and personal items including clothing and boots. There were possibly three people camping there.
"It's pretty apparent whoever was there left in a hurry," Foust said. That evidence still is being analyzed, he said.
"We would like to talk to anybody who was in the area at the time," Foust said.
The grieving Montaño family also asked for help in solving the crime.
Darlene Montaño, the victim's widow, said she has many unanswered questions about her husband's slaying. The two were together for 25 years. "Every day I miss that man," she said.
Through yard sales and car washes, the family raised money to increase a reward to $2,000 through 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line of the Pima County Attorney's Office.
"We know there's somebody out there who knows something or knows someone," Montaño said, "and if they could, just please help us close a little bit of what happened and to help the family understand why."
Anyone with information is asked to call 88-CRIME.
Psalms 7:8-17 amplified version
(8) The Lord judges the people; judge me, O Lord, and do me justice according to my righteousness [my rightness, justice, and right standing with You] and according to the integrity that is in me.
(9) Oh, let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish the [uncompromisingly] righteous [those upright and in harmony with You]; for You, Who try the hearts and emotions and thinking powers, are a righteous God
(12) If a man does not turn and repent, [God] will whet His sword; He has strung and bent His [huge] bow and made it ready [by treading it with His foot].
(16) His mischief shall fall back in return upon his own head, and his violence come down [with the loose dirt] upon his own scalp.
(17) I will give to the Lord the thanks due to His rightness and justice, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.
His legacy
Gods Promise
If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
The Lords Prayer
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
Thanks
Thanks be unto God for His wonderful gift: Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God is the object of our faith; the only faith that saves is faith in Him.
For Us All
God, make me brave for life: oh, braver than this. Let me straighten after pain, as a tree straightens after the rain, Shining and lovely again. God, make me brave for life; much braver than this. As the blown grass lifts, let me rise From sorrow with quiet eyes, Knowing Thy way is wise. God, make me brave, life brings Such blinding things. Help me to keep my sight; Help me to see aright That out of dark comes light. Amen
